Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has defended Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, saying the allegations linking him to the recent visit visa controversy are false and politically motivated.
Speaking to reporters at Bharatpur Airport in Chitwan on Thursday, Deuba claimed the minister was being unfairly targeted without any solid proof.
Deuba also confirmed that the party’s general convention will be held as planned, dismissing rumours of possible delays.
On the topic of coalition politics, Deuba said differences between Congress and UML are normal, as the two are separate parties with different views.
He also addressed the government's recent decision to remove the "Take or Pay" provision from the national budget, saying it was based on Congress’s suggestion and is a common part of coalition negotiations.
Deuba was in Chitwan to attend a memorial event for pro-democracy leader Gauridevi Pradhan, along with other Congress leaders.
