A contempt of court case has been filed against CPN-UML Secretary Mahesh Basnet, with the hearing scheduled for Chaitra 1 (Sunday).
Advocate Lawan Nyaupane lodged the petition on Wednesday, arguing that remarks made by Basnet during a Press Chautari Nepal interaction on Magh 11 undermined the judiciary.
In the petition, Basnet is accused of alleging that judges, including the Chief Justice, sometimes delay judicial processes due to fear, pressure, inducements, or potential impeachment, and of claiming that Nepal’s justice system has been weakened by foreign interference.
Nyaupane has requested the court to take action against Basnet for contempt and impose appropriate punishment to uphold the dignity and independence of the judiciary.
