The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is leading the proportional representation (PR) vote count in Nepal’s March 5 House of Representatives election, as counting enters its final stage.
RSP, which already won 125 direct seats, has secured over 5.13 million votes under the PR system, far ahead of its rivals. Nepali Congress follows with 1.75 million votes, while CPN-UML has 1.45 million votes. The Nepali Communist Party holds fourth place with 803,627 votes.
Smaller parties making it past the threshold include the Shram Sanskriti Party with 378,587 votes and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) with 329,457 votes. In total, 17 million PR votes have been counted so far.
Madhesh-based parties that previously had national status are lagging behind this time. Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal received 174,306 votes, the Rastriya Pariwartan Party 171,497, and the Janamat Party 78,949 votes.
The final PR results will determine how proportional seats are allocated, confirming RSP’s dominant position in the next parliament.
