A new weather system is causing widespread rain, thunderstorms, and possible snowfall across Nepal, affecting daily life and agriculture.

The Kathmandu Valley and many other parts of the country are currently experiencing the effects of both local and western winds. Additionally, a low-pressure system formed around Uttar Pradesh, India, is influencing the weather in Nepal.
Due to these weather patterns, light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is occurring since early morning in several areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.
As per the department, light rain is currently occurring in places like Kaski, Parbat, Syangja, Lamjung, Dailekh, Surkhet, Ilam, Dhankuta, Doti, Baitadi, Bajhang, Gorkha, Dang, Rolpa, Eastern and Western Rukum, Salyan, and Jajarkot.
This afternoon (April 17), some areas of Koshi may receive heavier rain compared to other regions. There's also a chance of snowfall in some mountainous areas.
The department has warned that rain, thunder, lightning and snowfall could affect agriculture, daily life, health, roads and air travel in many parts of the country, advising people to take precautions.
