Candidates from the CPN-UML said they are contesting the upcoming elections with a clear goal: to win the people’s trust and protect democracy. They made this statement during a Wednesday meeting with candidates from the Kathmandu Valley.
Speaking at the event, UML leader and Kathmandu-5 candidate Ishwar Pokharel said the party will soon release its manifesto, which will focus on the nation’s interest, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence. The manifesto will highlight both the party’s past achievements and future plans. Pokharel emphasized that social harmony and national unity are central to the party’s approach. He also mentioned the need to make some changes to the current system through constitutional amendments.
Pokharel expressed confidence that UML will perform well in the elections and show its credibility directly to the public. He also claimed that the party has faced various internal and external efforts to weaken it, stressing the importance of staying strong.
Meanwhile, UML secretary and Bhaktapur-2 candidate Mahesh Basnet accused the current government of supporting RSP and targeting democratic forces. He called for fair elections and warned against attempts to manipulate votes, referring to discussions about a two-phase voting system. Basnet also urged the judiciary to quickly address matters related to parliamentary reinstatement.
Similarly, UML secretary and Kathmandu-4 candidate Dr. Rajan Bhattarai said parliamentary reinstatement is important for restoring democracy and the constitution. He encouraged voters to cast their votes carefully and responsibly, highlighting that protecting democracy is the responsibility of every citizen.
The program showcased UML’s focus on national unity, democratic values, and the party’s commitment to fair and transparent elections.
