The Election Commission has officially told the Judicial Council not to move forward with appointing new judges, saying it would go against the election code of conduct.

This comes after the Judicial Council Secretariat sent a letter last week about judge appointments. The Election Commission replied that starting the appointment process during the election period would violate the code of conduct, which has been in place since January 18.

The Commission said that judges who recently passed the Public Service Commission exams have already been appointed, and their posting process is continuing. However, the Judicial Council had asked whether it could appoint judges based on seniority instead of exam results.

The Election Commission has made it clear that such seniority-based appointments cannot be done while the election code is active.

This decision shows that the Election Commission is strictly enforcing the code of conduct to keep state institutions neutral during the election period.
