The Supreme Court of Nepal has received three petitions on Tuesday, including two against the dissolution of the House of Representatives and one questioning the constitutionality of the interim government.

According to Court Spokesperson Arjun Prasad Koirala, the petitions were filed earlier in the morning and are currently under preliminary study. “The review process is underway, and further proceedings will begin after the initial assessment,” Koirala stated.

This development comes after the Supreme Court building was severely damaged by a fire on Bhadra 24, during the Gen Z protests, which destroyed nearly 80 percent of the case files. Since then, the court had been unable to register any new cases.

Tuesday marked the first day of new case registration after the fire incident. Coincidentally, the very first case filed was related to the controversial dissolution of the House of Representatives.

The move to dissolve Parliament came shortly after the formation of an interim government led by Sushila Karki on Bhadra 27, following the Gen Z protests. Acting on her recommendation, President Ramchandra Paudel announced the dissolution of the House that same night, a decision now being legally contested at the nation’s highest court.
