In the second such incident within three months, the body of a Nepali student was found hanging from the ceiling of her hostel room in Bhubaneswar’s Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) on Thursday, reports said quoting police.

The student, identified as Prisha Shah (20), was pursuing her BTech and her body was receovered from room number 111 of the hostel.

Police are yet to establish the circumstances behind the incident, while the institute has also not issued a formal statement regarding the case.

The latest incident comes nearly 2.5 months after the suicide of Prakriti Lamsal—a 21-year-old BTech (Third Year) student—who was said to be in an abusive relationship, on February 16.

Meanwhile, the Nepali officialdom has expressed sorrow over the incident, like it did in the case of Lamsal.

Minister for Foreign Affairs, Arzu Rana Deuba, has expressed deep sadness over the loss of life, wished for eternal peace to the departed and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. Minister Deuba said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has initiated diplomatic steps with the government of India, high officials of the state government of Odisha and the Nepali Embassy in Delhi for a fact-finding probe.

In a social media post, Nepal's Ambassador to India, Shankar P Sharma, has expressed sadness over the loss of life, extended condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace. Ambassador Sharma said they were closely coordinating with India's Ministry of External Affairs, Odisha government, police and the university for a thorough probe.
