Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has called for a special general convention before the upcoming elections, saying the party must go to the people as a renewed and reformed force.

In a video message, Thapa said the convention would show that Congress has reflected, corrected its mistakes, and is ready for a fresh start. He believes this move would help rebuild public trust and reconnect with disillusioned citizens.

Amid internal debate, Thapa’s faction is pushing for a special convention before March elections, while the establishment side favors a regular one scheduled for May.

Thapa stressed that the party must now listen to the people instead of merely speaking for them, saying, “We must engage in dialogue and include citizens in our journey forward.”
