The Nepal Teachers’ Federation has warned it will launch fresh protests if the long-awaited School Education Act is not introduced by Shrawan 2 (July 17).

Despite a previous agreement to bring the Act by Asar 15, the government failed to deliver. The Federation plans a press conference on July 17 and has called a central committee meeting for Shrawan 9 and 10 to decide further protest programs.

Key unresolved issues include teacher promotions, disciplinary authority, and temporary teachers’ status. The Federation strongly opposes giving disciplinary power to local governments, warning it would worsen teachers' conditions.

Earlier, teachers had staged a 29-day nationwide strike demanding protection of their rights and timely implementation of the Act.
