Speaker to Meet Party Whips to Resolve Parliament Obstruction

Speaker Devraj Ghimire is meeting with the chief whips of three major parties to try to end the ongoing disruption in Parliament caused by the opposition.

The meeting will take place on Sunday at 12 p.m. at Singha Durbar, according to the Speaker’s office. The chief whips from Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, and Maoist Centre will take part in the talks.

The opposition, including the main opposition party Maoist Centre, has been blocking Parliament because they want a committee to investigate the Home Minister’s involvement in a visit visa scandal.

The opposition has kept protesting since the budget was allowed to be presented on Jestha 15. But the ruling coalition has refused to agree to their demand for an investigation committee.
