Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has said that although the party is part of the government, the real control of power is still in the hands of the leftist parties.

Speaking at a program held in Bhaktapur on Saturday, Koirala warned that the country is facing tough times and stressed that the Congress must take the lead to guide the nation. He described the Nepali Congress as a centrist party, neither right-wing nor leftist, and said that when centrist parties become weak, countries can slip into chaos.

He added, “Nepali Congress can stop this chaos. The country needs a balanced and stable force, and only Congress can provide that.”

Koirala also highlighted that being in government and holding power are two different things. “Yes, we are in the government, but the key to power is not with us,” he said. “You can figure out what that means.”

He stressed that Congress must take that key from the leftists. “Power is still with the left. It’s time we unlock that door.”

Koirala also criticized the main opposition party, UML, saying, “If UML does something wrong, we must be brave enough to call it wrong. If we can’t say what’s wrong, we can’t call ourselves true Congress members.”
