Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has stressed the need to modernize the postal service.
Speaking at an event organized by the Department of Postal Service in Biratnagar today, Minister Gurung said the postal system should keep up with modern technology and be restructured to meet current needs.
He also reminded postal employees to follow the annual work calendar to make the service more organized. The Minister promised to support efforts to make the postal service more technology-friendly.
He added that the service should be made more reliable and expanded to 193 countries around the world through courier services. He also suggested including e-commerce as part of the modernization plan.
At the same event, Ministry Secretary Radhika Aryal said the postal service should be run more like a business, with proper categorization and restructuring.
Minister for Internal Affairs and Law of Koshi Province, Rewati Raman Bhandari, said the postal system should aim to become self-sufficient and reach new levels of development.
Director General of the Postal Department, Manmaya Pangeni, Chief of Morang District Coordination Committee, Ajambar Rai, and other officials called for a trustworthy and efficient postal service.Representatives from post offices and organizations across Koshi Province were also present at the event.
