CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel has questioned the decision to appoint Energy Minister Kulman Ghising as vice-chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
Pokhrel said it is inappropriate for Ghising to take a party position without first resigning as minister, as he is serving in a non-partisan election government.
On Monday evening, Ghising was named vice-chair of RSP after his Ujyalo Nepal Party merged with the RSP. The decision was made by RSP Chair Rabi Lamichhane and Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah.
Writing on Facebook, Pokhrel raised concerns about the move, especially by parties that claim to represent alternative politics.
He asked how it could be justified for such parties to appoint a minister from a non-partisan election government to a senior party post without resignation.
