The Nepal Medical Association (NMA) has expressed serious concern over the rapidly deteriorating health condition of Dr. Nicholas Bhusal, who has been on an indefinite hunger strike at Maitighar Mandala for the past seven days.
According to the Association, Dr. Bhusal is experiencing severe symptoms including dizziness, numbness, and swelling, raising serious concerns over potential risks to his life. The NMA warned that continued neglect could lead to life-threatening consequences.
In a statement released today, NMA General Secretary Dr. Sanjiv Tiwari called on the government to take immediate steps to safeguard Dr. Bhusal’s life and address his demands. “Every Nepali has the fundamental right to live in good health. The government must urgently intervene to protect Dr. Bhusal’s life,” the statement read.
Dr. Bhusal began his indefinite hunger strike on December 23 at Maitighar Mandala, demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister and the Home Minister. The Association emphasized that his condition has worsened due to prolonged fasting and lack of response from the authorities.
Supporters of Dr. Bhusal have also warned that continued government inaction is further aggravating his health condition. They urged the authorities to act responsibly before the situation turns irreversible.
The NMA reiterated that the matter requires immediate attention and stressed that the government bears full responsibility for ensuring the safety and well-being of the protesting doctor.
