The East–West Highway was blocked on Tuesday morning after an LPG gas tanker met with an accident near Lamaha Bridge on the Chandranigahapur–Dhansar road section in Rautahat.

The tanker, with registration number UP 17 AT 2114, was carrying LPG gas from Raxaul, India, to Mahendranagar in Dhanusha when the accident happened.

The driver, 35-year-old Pawan Yadav from the Jaynagar police station area of Kadoura district in India, was injured. He is receiving treatment at the Civil Hospital in Chandranigahapur, said Rajendra Thapamagar, chief of the District Traffic Police Office, Rautahat.

Due to the accident, traffic from the eastern side has been stopped near the District Traffic Police Office in Chandranigahapur, while vehicles from the western side have been halted near Dhansar Bridge.

The tanker is stuck in the middle of the highway, completely blocking the road. Gas is leaking from the tanker, creating a serious risk of further accidents.

Traffic police said a technical team from a gas company in Janakpur is on the way to safely remove the tanker and control the situation.
