Republic Day rallies by the CPN-UML and pro-monarchy groups, including the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), are happening today in Kathmandu, prompting the deployment of nearly 800 traffic police to manage road flow.
The CPN-UML’s cultural rally, celebrating Nepal’s republic, starts at 11 AM from Bhrikutimandap, passing through Shahid Gate, Bir Hospital, and Ratnapark before ending by 2:30 PM. Pro-monarchy protests will follow in the Ratnapark–Shantibatika area, demanding the return of the monarchy.
To ensure safety and smooth traffic, authorities have set up a special security plan and traffic diversions. Assistant Chief District Officer Ashok Kumar Bhandari said measures are in place to prevent disturbances. Traffic police spokesperson Deepak Giri confirmed 783 officers are on duty, with more ready if needed.
The public is advised to plan travel and check road updates to avoid delays.
