The government has started a ban on public gatherings in the Narayanhiti Palace Museum area at Durbar Marg, starting today. This is in response to the rising pro-monarchy protests.
Kathmandu’s Chief District Officer, Rishi Ram Tiwari, issued a statement on Friday. He said that gatherings of more than five people are not allowed in the restricted area.
The order also bans all types of protests, including hunger strikes, sit-ins, rallies, marches, and public meetings. This restriction will be in place from Saturday until July 8, 2025.
The restricted area covers the route from Keshar Mahal Chowk to the southern gate of the Narayanhiti Palace Museum, and from the Mahendra statue to the museum's southern gate.
