At least 15 Palestinians were killed and over 100 injured when Israeli tanks fired near a food aid centre in Rafah, southern Gaza, early Monday, according to medics and local reporters.
Thousands had gathered near the US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation’s aid distribution site when tanks reportedly opened fire. With the area under Israeli control, rescue workers couldn’t reach the victims. Locals used donkey carts to bring the injured to a Red Cross field hospital.
Doctors said 15 bodies and dozens of injured people arrived for treatment, with some later moved to Khan Younis for further care. The attack comes amid a worsening humanitarian crisis in Rafah, where access to aid has been severely limited due to ongoing Israeli operations.
Meanwhile, Hamas responded to a US-backed ceasefire proposal, offering to release Israeli hostages in exchange for prisoners. But they are still demanding a full ceasefire, Israeli withdrawal, and continuous aid, conditions not included in the current deal. The US called Hamas’ response "unacceptable" but says the proposal is the only path to peace.
