The Ministry of Health and Population in Nepal has introduced a helpline service aimed at helping people who want to quit smoking and using tobacco-related products. Individuals who are struggling with tobacco addiction can now call 1132 to receive counseling and guidance on how to overcome their addiction.
The service was officially launched by Health Minister Pradeep Paudel, who expressed hope that the helpline would lead to a reduction in tobacco use across the country. He highlighted that this step is part of the government's broader plan to improve public health and prevent tobacco-related diseases.
Health Secretary Dr. Bikas Devkota said the increasing use of tobacco products among young people is a growing concern. He especially pointed out the rising popularity of vaping and said the ministry is working on structured plans to address this issue.
