The government has announced a public holiday this Sunday in the Kathmandu Valley. The Ministry of Home Affairs said the holiday will be given in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur districts. This holiday is for the Bhoto Jatra festival, which is held to display the sacred vest (bhoto) of the deity Rato Machhindranath.
On Friday, the chariot of Rato Machhindranath was pulled from Lagankhel to Jawalakhel. The main event, Bhoto Jatra, will take place this Sunday at Jawalakhel, where the sacred vest will be shown to the public.
Bhoto Jatra is the final part of the Rato Machhindranath chariot festival. This festival is the longest one celebrated in Nepal. After the Bhoto Jatra, Rato Machhindranath will be taken back to Bungamati, marking the end of the festival.
