US warns 500% tariff on India and China for buying Russian oil

The United States has warned that any country continuing to buy oil, gas, or petrochemicals from Russia could face a 500% tariff. US Senator Richard Blumenthal made this statement while visiting Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv. He specifically pointed to India and China, saying both countries together buy about 70% of Russia’s oil.

This warning comes at a time when Russia is strongly pushing to restart the India–China–Russia (RIC) triangle alliance.

Senators Blumenthal and Lindsey Graham also said that if Russia does not start peace talks with Ukraine, the US might impose the same 500% tariff directly on Russia as well.

Sources say the US is discussing a new law that could introduce this high tariff on countries buying oil, gas, or uranium from Russia. The matter might be discussed in the US Senate next week.
