The monsoon has arrived early in Nepal this year, and some areas of Koshi Province are already seeing heavy rainfall. In the last six hours alone, Sunsari recorded 131 mm of rain, while Jhapa saw 104 mm, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.
Rain is still falling in many parts of the country, including Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Karnali provinces. Forecasters say light to moderate rain is likely to continue in several areas throughout the day.
This year’s monsoon entered the country two weeks ahead of schedule, starting from Koshi Province on Thursday night. Officials say the monsoon is now fully active in Koshi and slowly spreading to other regions.
Weather experts have already warned that this year’s monsoon could bring more rainfall than usual.
