Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli has said that millet is not only a traditional crop of Nepal but also a nutritious food.
In a message shared on social media on the occasion of National Millet Day, Prime Minister Oli extended his best wishes and encouraged everyone to increase millet production and enjoy millet-based dishes. “Let’s grow more millet, let’s enjoy millet foods! Happy Millet Day!” he wrote.
He further explained that millet has a low glycemic index, which helps control blood sugar levels, and its fiber content supports heart health.
Since millet can grow without irrigation and has many health benefits, the government has decided to celebrate National Millet Day every year on Shrawan 16 (August 1) starting this year.
