The CPN (Maoist Centre) has said it is holding talks with former Maoist factions for possible party unification. However, the party clarified that there are no discussions or plans to unite with Dr. Baburam Bhattarai's party.
After a Standing Committee meeting at the party’s central office in Paris Danda on Friday, party spokesperson Agni Sapkota told reporters that talks with parties under the Socialist Front have been positive.
“We are currently in contact with all groups within the Maoist stream,” said Sapkota. When asked about Baburam Bhattarai, he responded, “Dr. Bhattarai left the communist path and joined Naya Shakti. So, there is no talk of unity with him.”
He added that discussions with Netra Bikram Chand "Biplav"-led group and CPN (Unified Socialist) are moving forward positively.
“There could be unity soon, or it may take some time. But this time the discussions are more intense, and our chairman is more hopeful than before,” Sapkota said, referring to ongoing talks with Unified Socialist. “Jhalanath Khanal is one of their senior leaders, but the final decision will come from their party leadership and central bodies.”
Sapkota also mentioned that discussions are underway to bring Upendra Yadav’s Janata Samajbadi Party and Rizwan Ansari’s party into the Socialist Front.
