South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has come under intense scrutiny after reportedly ordering the arrest of his ruling party leader, Han Dong-hoon, during a controversial declaration of martial law on Tuesday night.
The arrest list, according to National Intelligence Service Deputy Director Hong Jang-won, also included Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the opposition Democratic Party, along with three other opposition lawmakers. Hong alleged that Yoon aimed to "use this chance to arrest them and wipe them out."
The revelation has plunged the nation into political turmoil, prompting emergency meetings among political parties. Lawmakers are now preparing to vote on Yoon's impeachment. Scheduled for Saturday, the motion requires a two-thirds majority in the National Assembly to pass.
This escalation highlights a growing divide in South Korean politics, with Yoon's actions sparking widespread criticism and raising concerns about the state of democracy in the country.
