Khusbu Oli, chief whip of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), has accused lawmakers of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) of searching for evidence that Nepal encroached on Indian land in order to defend their party leader.

Speaking during Tuesday’s House of Representatives meeting, Oli said that those who once claimed Nepal would not give up “even an inch” of its territory are now trying to justify statements made by their own leader by looking for proof that Nepal had encroached on Indian territory.

She said:

“Those who once said Nepal would not surrender even an inch of land are now searching for evidence that Nepal encroached on India’s land just to defend their own leader. Nothing could be more unfortunate than this. The Prime Minister’s statement yesterday has become an extremely serious issue from diplomatic, legal, and national security perspectives.”

Oli argued that the Prime Minister’s remarks should not be treated as a personal opinion because they came from the country’s highest office.

“The Prime Minister is not an individual but an institution. A weak narrative coming from the highest state institution increases the risk of a national crisis,” she said.

She also warned against normalizing such issues and urged leaders not to weaken Nepal’s territorial claims merely to defend a political statement.

“Border issues, sovereignty, and national dignity can be matters of debate, but weakening the nation’s own claims just to protect a leader’s statement can never be called nationalism,” she added.

Similarly, Yubaraj Dulal of the Nepal Communist Party demanded that the RSP publicly clarify its position regarding the Prime Minister’s statement that Nepal had encroached on Indian land.

He also said the statement should be removed from the parliamentary record and that the Prime Minister should return to Parliament to address the issue again.
