President Ram Chandra Poudel has stated that caste-based discrimination is a serious crime against social morality and human dignity.
Issuing a message of best wishes on Thursday on the occasion of the Caste-Based Discrimination and Untouchability Elimination Day, the President said that the Constitution of Nepal has embraced the country’s multiethnic, multilingual, multireligious, multicultural, and geographical diversity as a unique national identity.
“The Constitution of Nepal has embraced the characteristics of a multiethnic, multilingual, multireligious, multicultural, and geographically diverse nation. It is committed to building an egalitarian society based on the principles of proportional inclusion and participation by protecting and promoting unity in diversity, social and cultural harmony, tolerance, and goodwill, while ending all forms of class-based, caste-based, regional, linguistic, religious, and gender discrimination, and ensuring economic equality, prosperity, and social justice,” the message states.
He said that the Constitution aims to preserve and promote unity in diversity, as well as social and cultural solidarity, tolerance, and harmony. President Poudel also extended his heartfelt best wishes to all Nepali brothers and sisters living in Nepal and abroad for happiness, peace, prosperity, and social harmony.
