A powerful cyclone has struck Mayotte Island in the Indian Ocean, causing the death of at least 100 people. This cyclone, named "Chido," has been described as the most powerful in the region in the past century. Mayotte, a French overseas territory with a population of 320,000, was hit by the storm, which reached speeds of 225 kilometers per hour. Thousands of people have been affected by the cyclone, with many left without food, water, or shelter. Search, rescue, and relief operations are currently underway in the affected areas.
Although only 11 bodies have been recovered so far, it is feared that the death toll could exceed 100, with some reports suggesting the possibility of up to 1,000 casualties. The cyclone has caused severe damage to homes, roads, government buildings, and electricity infrastructure. Mayotte is located approximately 8,000 kilometers from Paris, the capital of France. The French Ministry of the Interior has stated that it is currently too early to confirm the exact number of fatalities, but given the devastating conditions, officials have raised concerns about the potential for a much higher death toll.
