UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel has strongly hit back at Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa over his remarks targeting UML Chair KP Sharma Oli, framing the criticism as driven by “geopolitical self-interest.”
Reacting on social media, Pokhrel accused Thapa of undermining national sovereignty and said bowing to external interests amounts to servitude, while resisting them reflects self-respect. He argued that when the country faces crisis, public anger, and threats to the constitution and democracy, celebrating festivals or mocking leadership is inappropriate.
Defending UML and its leadership, Pokhrel likened party cadres to “modern-day Spartacus,” claiming they stand for freedom, sovereignty, and national dignity, and will lead the struggle against anarchy and external pressure.
