US President Donald Trump on Monday announced a 25% tariff on all trade between the United States and any country that continues to do business with Iran, saying the order is effective immediately and final.

Trump shared the announcement on Truth Social, stating, “Any country doing business with the Islamic Republic of Iran will pay a tariff of 25% on all trade with the United States.”

The move comes amid widespread protests in Iran, driven by economic hardship, inflation, and anger over governance. Reports say at least 544 people have been killed and over 10,681 arrested during the unrest. Demonstrations have been recorded in provinces including Azerbaijan and the city of Arak, with citizens waving flags and chanting slogans.

US Republican Senator Lindsey Graham praised Trump for economically isolating the Khamenei regime and suggested targeted military action against those responsible for the killings, without deploying US troops on the ground.

Earlier, Trump revealed that Iran had reached out to the US for negotiations. Speaking aboard Air Force One, he said, “They called. Iran wants to negotiate. I think they’re tired of being beat up by the United States.” Trump added that while talks are in the works, developments in Iran could force Washington to act before formal negotiations begin.

The tariff and diplomatic engagement signal growing international pressure on Tehran amid internal unrest and economic strain.
