As many as 85 candidates have withdrawn from parties’ proportional representation closed lists ahead of the House of Representatives election.

A total of 85 candidates from various political parties have withdrawn their names from the closed list under the proportional representation system for the House of Representatives election.
According to the Election Commission, candidates from parties including the Janamat Party, CPN-UML, Janata Samajwadi Party, Nepal Communist Party, Progressive Democratic Party, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party withdrew their candidacies within the designated time on Monday. The highest number of withdrawals came from the Janata Samajwadi Party (21), followed by the Janamat Party (20).
The Janata Samajwadi Party said the withdrawals were made to reorganize its list following its unification with the Loktantrik Samajwadi Party. The Commission noted that the number may rise slightly when the final list is published. A total of 64 political parties had submitted closed lists under the proportional representation system.
