KATHMANDU — Prime Minister Sushila Karki has strongly condemned the recent attacks on the country’s critical institutions during the Gen-Z protests, describing the destruction as “shameful” and “unprecedented.”
Speaking after assuming office at Singha Durbar on Sunday, PM Karki highlighted the scale of the damage, noting that police posts, court files, and other essential documents were destroyed during the unrest. She questioned the motives behind targeting institutions that form the backbone of governance in Nepal.
“The country’s most essential institutions have been targeted. Police posts and stations were burned down, and critical national documents have been lost,” Karki said.
Expressing disappointment over the perpetrators, she added, “If this was done by a Nepali, can we even call them Nepali? People killing people, looting buildings, this may be the first time our country has seen such destruction.”
Her remarks come as Nepal begins the process of recovery following widespread violence, arson, and looting during the Gen-Z protests.
