Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has extended his best wishes on the occasion of Bhanu Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Nepal’s first poet, Bhanubhakta Acharya.

Through a message on social media, Prime Minister Oli wrote, “Today is the birth anniversary of Aadikavi Bhanubhakta Acharya. The great poet who planted the story of Ramayana in Nepali hearts and connected Nepalis with the bridge of language and emotions. Salute to Bhanubhakta, who began original writing in the Nepali language. Warm wishes to all creators on this Bhanu Jayanti.”

This year marks the 212th birth anniversary of Bhanubhakta Acharya, which is being celebrated in Nepal and abroad with various events.

Bhanubhakta is best known for translating the Sanskrit Ramayana into Nepali with deep emotion and poetic beauty. His version of the Ramayana is still recited in many Nepali homes today.

While King Prithvi Narayan Shah united Nepal geographically, Bhanubhakta helped unite the country through language, literature, and culture. He played an important role in shaping Nepal’s national identity, cultural awareness, and unity among Nepali people.

Critics believe that Bhanubhakta is a historical figure who deserves respect from all Nepalis, and they say it's important to hold discussions and reviews about his ideas and contributions.
