Prime Minister Sushila Karki has urged all political parties to actively participate in the upcoming elections, emphasizing the need for broad cooperation to ensure the country’s progress. She highlighted that the government is moving forward with election preparations and governance reforms in line with the aspirations of the Gen Z movement.
PM Karki later met CPN-UML leaders, who raised concerns over the uncertainty created by their Supreme Court writ challenging the dissolution of the House of Representatives. The UML stressed that a credible environment is essential for free and fair elections and expressed concerns over travel restrictions on party Chair KP Sharma Oli, recent prison escapes, and security incidents affecting voter confidence.
The UML also confirmed readiness to contest the March 5, 2026 elections and called for conditions that allow all parties to campaign freely. PM Karki assured the leaders that the government is working to create a supportive electoral environment, though questions regarding travel restrictions remained unaddressed.
