The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council is convening a crucial meeting today (Tuesday) at 11:30 a.m. at the Office of the Prime Minister, chaired by Prime Minister Sushila Karki.
According to Dinesh Prasad Bhatt, Executive Chief of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, the meeting will primarily focus on the recent floods and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall between October 3 and 5 (Asoj 17–19), which resulted in at least 60 fatalities and caused extensive damage, particularly in Ilam district.
The agenda includes nine key points, such as providing relief to affected families, reopening obstructed roads, ensuring the continuation of essential services, managing the risk of post-disaster disease outbreaks, and arranging temporary housing for displaced individuals.
The meeting will be attended by Finance, Energy, Home, Industry, Education, Agriculture, and Communication Ministers, as well as chief ministers from all seven provinces. Other participants include former minister Dr. Gangalal Tuladhar, the Vice Chair of the National Planning Commission, the Chief Secretary, the Chief of Army Staff, and the Home Secretary.
The Council is expected to announce a comprehensive relief and recovery plan following today’s discussions.
