On the 77th International Human Rights Day, President Ram Chandra Paudel called on everyone to help make the upcoming House of Representatives election on March 5, 2026, respectful of human rights and to strengthen Nepal’s democracy.
He said that people are closely watching Nepal’s political situation after the recent youth movement, both within the country and internationally.
President Paudel stressed that the government, political parties, civil society, youth groups, and citizens all need to work together to stabilize the situation. He urged Nepal to take active steps to fully enforce the fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution, following global efforts to create fair and just societies.
He said, “Human rights are the foundation of human life. These rights, guaranteed by the Constitution and inspired by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, support freedom, equality, and justice.”
Highlighting Nepal’s commitment to international human rights agreements, he asked the federal, provincial, and local governments, along with social organizations, media, and the private sector, to actively protect the rights and freedoms of vulnerable and at-risk groups.
He also emphasized that protecting economic, social, and cultural rights is important for individual freedom and for maintaining democracy.
