More than 11,000 inmates remain at large following the violent prison break that erupted during the Gen Z protests.
According to Chamendra Nyaupane, Director of the Department of Prison Management, a total of 13,779 prisoners, including 12,817 from 26 prisons and 962 from juvenile homes, had initially escaped on September 9.
So far, 2,318 inmates have either been rearrested or voluntarily returned. However, 11,461 prisoners are still missing.
Among the fugitives are some notorious criminals, including gold smuggler kingpin Chudamani Upreti ‘Gore’ and Indian national Uday Setti, a known kidnapping ringleader.
The mass jailbreak happened after inmates set fires and broke down prison gates during the height of the Gen Z movement.
