The Nakkhu Prison administration has appealed to all inmates who escaped on Tuesday to immediately surrender and contact jail authorities. The appeal also covers Rabi Lamichhane, chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, who was jailed in connection with a cooperative fraud case.
In a notice issued Thursday, the jail warned that those who remain absconding will face stricter enforcement of their sentences and risk losing future legal rights, benefits, and chances of social reintegration.
The statement read: “Out of respect for the law, social responsibility, and public order, we request all escaped prisoners to surrender immediately to help maintain peace and order.”
The administration added that prisoners who return voluntarily will receive legal support and rehabilitation assistance as per the law.
A jail official, speaking anonymously for security reasons, confirmed that the notice applies to Lamichhane as well. According to the official, Lamichhane threatened jail staff and forced them to hand over a letter, which triggered a larger prison break.
The official said Lamichhane would still be eligible for legal benefits if he surrenders voluntarily, but warned that if he and others fail to return, police action will be taken to capture them.
