Nepal Communist Party (UML) Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli stated that UML was saved from splitting.

Addressing a program in Kathmandu on Thursday, he said that just like the Nepali Congress, efforts were made to split UML, but they were unsuccessful. He claimed that the party is now united after electing leadership through its convention. Oli added that during his tenure as Prime Minister, he barely had time to sleep and was always engrossed in government work.

He said, “As Prime Minister, I barely got time to sleep. Work had to be done like that. We were under attack, facing opposition. Just like what is happening in Congress now, similar attempts were made in our party. A year ago, we held a convention, cut through the confusion and rumors, and prevented forced removal of Sher Bahadur [Deuba]. We aimed to ensure accountability and responsible leadership. The people and party members gave their decision through the convention. Our party faced the same problem, but it was saved and is now united. The convention gave a clear decision.”

Oli also emphasized that one should not create a narrative saying everything was good before and everything is bad now.
