The Nepali Congress led by Gagan Thapa has decided to prepare a party manifesto for the upcoming House of Representatives election on March 5.
The decision was made in the first meeting of the newly elected Central Working Committee held on Thursday in Kupandol, Lalitpur. The meeting agreed to form a Manifesto Drafting Committee led by party President Gagan Thapa.
Party spokesperson Devaraj Chalise said an Election Mobilization Committee will also be formed under Vice President Bishwa Prakash Sharma to lead the election campaign.
The Central Committee also decided to inform the Election Commission about all decisions made by the Special General Convention. A team has been sent to submit documents and update the proportional representation candidate list.
The four-day Second Special General Convention ended early Thursday morning at Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu. The convention unanimously elected Gagan Thapa as party president. Bishwa Prakash Sharma and Pushpa Bhusal were elected vice presidents, while Pradip Paudel and Gururaj Ghimire became general secretaries.
Eight leaders were elected as joint general secretaries.
Meanwhile, the Sher Bahadur Deuba–led faction held a separate meeting in Sanepa and decided to expel Gagan Thapa, Bishwa Prakash Sharma and Farumullah Mansoor for five years, accusing them of organizing the Special General Convention.
