NMB Bank has signed an agreement with international organizations such as IFC, BII and MetLife to issue the first-ever green bonds in Nepal, valued at $60 million, in Nepali rupees.

The aim of this collaboration is to invest in climate-related projects and create both direct and indirect quality employment opportunities. The bank believes this initiative will also support the development of the country's energy sector.

The funds raised from this green bond will primarily be used to invest in projects related to renewable energy, such as solar energy, electric vehicles, green buildings and biomass.

Manoj Kumar Goyal, chairman of the Bank's Board, expressed confidence that this effort will bring a transformative change in renewable energy and other sectors. He also stated that NMB Bank’s initiative will attract foreign capital to Nepal and help reduce the environmental impact in the climate sector.
