The newly appointed Prime Minister Sushila Karki will begin work from a new office at Singha Durbar after the old Prime Minister’s Office was badly damaged during the Gen-Z protests.
The new office is being prepared inside the building originally built for the Ministry of Home Affairs, located in the northwest part of Singha Durbar. Security personnel, including the Nepal Army, along with civil servants, are busy shifting furniture, computers, and other items that survived the arson and vandalism.
Meanwhile, the fire in the western wing of Singha Durbar is still burning even after five days. Many ministries remain in ruins, with burnt vehicles, documents, and furniture scattered across their compounds.
Among them, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology faced the heaviest losses. Despite Saturday being a public holiday, Secretary Chudamani Poudel led employees in cleaning and waste management work today. Most of the ministry’s vehicles were reduced to skeletons in the fire.
Ministry spokesperson Shiva Kumar Sapkota, who joined the cleaning drive from early morning, said teams are assessing the damage. “We are trying to resume daily operations wherever possible, especially in areas without structural damage,” he explained.
