KATHMANDU: Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) General Secretary Netra Bikram Chand has said he is ready to serve as Prime Minister if his party gains public support in the upcoming elections.

Addressing a Gen-Z interaction program in Kathmandu on Saturday, Chand said the party will contest the elections but expressed doubt that polls would be held on the scheduled date. He questioned the Sushila Karki–led government’s ability to conduct elections, citing low morale among police and civil servants, unrecovered looted weapons, and a lack of funds.

Chand called for the formation of an all-party interim government and reiterated the demand, also raised by Gen-Z for a directly elected executive President or Prime Minister.

He also accused the current government of failing to act against corruption and said the Maoist party is ready to lead the country if given a chance by the people.
