The Nepali Congress Central Working Committee, led by party president Gagan Thapa, is set to visit the Election Commission on Friday amid a growing dispute over which faction is the official leadership.

Party sources say President Thapa and the entire central committee will meet the Election Commission today. This comes after the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led faction, led by acting president Purna Bahadur Khadka, visited the Commission earlier in the day. They submitted documents claiming their faction is legitimate, arguing that the special general convention was not approved by the Central Working Committee and that many representatives had withdrawn their support.

The Thapa-led group is expected to discuss issues such as party recognition, election symbols, and other procedures for the upcoming House of Representatives election on March 5.

With both factions approaching the Election Commission on the same day, the pressure is on the constitutional body to make a decision quickly as the election date nears.
