In a move to promote Nepal’s own calendar system, the government has decided to include Nepal Sambat dates on all newly printed Nepali banknotes. The formal announcement is expected to be made during Nepal Sambat 1146 New Year celebrations this Wednesday.
The event will take place at Bhaktapur, where Prime Minister Sushila Karki will attend a ceremony honoring Shankhadhar Sakhwa, the initiator of the Nepal Sambat era.
According to the Shankhadhar Sakhwa Foundation, the decision follows discussions between the Prime Minister and the foundation members. Preparations for the celebration have already been completed, with various programs planned to highlight the cultural and historical value of Nepal Sambat and Sakhwa’s contribution to the nation’s identity.
