According to a BBC report, massive demonstrations have erupted across major US cities, including New York, Washington DC, Chicago, Miami, and Los Angeles, as citizens rally against President Donald Trump’s policies.
In New York City, thousands of protesters filled Times Square and nearby streets, chanting slogans defending democracy and carrying banners rejecting what they call Trump’s growing authoritarianism. Police estimated over 100,000 people joined peaceful demonstrations across all five boroughs, with no protest-related arrests reported.
Organizers, identifying with the “No Kings” movement, emphasized non-violence and urged participants to remain peaceful. Similar rallies were held in Washington DC, where political leaders and activists voiced concerns over what they describe as the president’s expansion of executive power and attacks on democratic institutions.
Since returning to the White House in January, Trump has issued a series of executive orders restructuring parts of the federal government, deploying National Guard troops in some cities, and calling for legal action against his political opponents. While the president defends these moves as necessary reforms, critics warn they risk undermining constitutional checks and balances.
Protesters told the BBC they fear the US is moving toward authoritarianism, drawing parallels to historical fascist regimes. The demonstrations, however, remained largely peaceful, with police monitoring from the sidelines as helicopters and drones hovered overhead.
