The government has warned civil servants that they may be dismissed from service if found involved in political activities.
In a notice issued on Wednesday, the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration directed civil servants to strictly comply with rules related to discipline and professional conduct.
The notice states that, according to Nepal’s Constitution and the Civil Service Act, the civil service must remain politically neutral, impartial, and accountable.
Referring to Section 61(1)(e) of the Civil Service Act, 2049, the ministry reminded employees that participation in politics could lead to removal from service, without necessarily disqualifying them from future government employment.
The ministry also clarified that civil servants are prohibited from affiliating with political parties or their sister organizations.
According to the notice, employees may face dismissal if they engage in political activities, obtain membership in political organizations, or run as candidates in elections for political positions.
The ministry further stated that any civil servant found associated with a political party, its affiliated organizations, involved in political activities, or contesting political elections will face legal action in accordance with the law.
