The Communist Party of Nepal (UML)’s recent move to push for the reinstatement of the House of Representatives through nationwide public campaigns has drawn concern from President Ramchandra Paudel, who fears the decision could heighten political instability.
During a meeting with civil society leaders, the President reportedly questioned UML’s choice to avoid elections while focusing on public opinion-building. He expressed dissatisfaction with the party’s stance, noting uncertainty about whether elections would now move forward as planned.
UML recently concluded that reviving the dissolved parliament is the most viable way to resolve the ongoing political crisis and announced plans to engage with the public to gather support for this agenda.
According to sources, President Paudel remarked that while several UML leaders favor participating in elections, party chair KP Sharma Oli continues to emphasize parliamentary reinstatement. The President, they said, is worried that this approach could further complicate the nation’s fragile political environment.
