The government of Nepal has condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, India.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement today, expressing deep sadness over the attack on tourists. The statement also offered condolences to the families of those who died and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. It said, “In this time of sorrow, the government of Nepal stands in strong solidarity with India and its people.”

President Ramchandra Paudel, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, and Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba released separate statements condemning the attack.

President Paudel said that violence targeting innocent people is completely unacceptable. Prime Minister Oli said that Nepal stands with India against terrorism and mentioned efforts are being made to confirm reports that a Nepali citizen also died in the attack.

Foreign Minister Deuba strongly condemned the attack, calling it a senseless act of violence. She said the government is trying to verify reports about the death of a Nepali citizen and will provide updates once confirmed.

According to Indian media, at least 26 people, including one Nepali, were killed in the attack yesterday afternoon (April 22). Several others were injured. The exact number of dead and injured is still being confirmed.

After the attack, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi cut short his trip to Saudi Arabia and returned home.
